The Meathook Massacre is a legendary enchantment that pulls double duty as a scalable sweeper and a win condition. When it enters the battlefield, it gives each creature -X/-X until end of turn, letting you tailor it from “clean up small stuff” to “reset the board.” Then it keeps paying you back: whenever a creature you control dies, each opponent loses 1 life, and whenever a creature an opponent controls dies, you gain 1 life—which means every trade, token death, or sacrifice becomes incremental drain and stabilization.
In Commander (and other non-rotating formats), it’s popular in decks that naturally create expendable creatures—tokens, sacrifice/aristocrats shells, or any strategy that expects lots of creatures to die. The Innistrad Remastered version is a premium reprint that brings the card back into circulation (including special treatments like retro frames in the set), without changing what makes it brutal: it swings tempo immediately and can quietly end games as the board churns.
