Chalice of the Void is a mythic rare artifact from Magic: The Gathering‘s Mirrodin and Masters 25 sets. It costs {X}{X} and features:
- Chalice of the Void enters the battlefield with X charge counters on it.
- Whenever a player casts a spell with mana value equal to the number of charge counters on Chalice of the Void, counter that spell.
Chalice of the Void is a powerful control tool, shutting down low-cost spells and disrupting combo and aggro decks by selectively countering key plays.
Tip:
Use Chalice of the Void at {X}=1 or {X}=2 to lock out low-cost spells like Lightning Bolt, Brainstorm, and Swords to Plowshares. In formats with heavy one-drop reliance, Chalice can prevent entire strategies from unfolding. Pair it with mana ramp to play Chalice for higher values, countering expensive spells as well.
