Breeding Pool (Borderless) in Edge of Eternities is a premium borderless take on one of Magic’s most-played Simic dual lands. Functionally, it’s the classic “shock land” package: it’s a Forest Island that taps for {G} or {U}, and it can enter untapped if you’re willing to pay 2 life—otherwise it comes in tapped. Having the basic land types is the real superpower: it turns on fetch lands and a huge number of “search for a Forest/Island” effects, while also smoothing your early turns so you can actually cast your blue-and-green spells on curve.
In gameplay, Breeding Pool is at its best when tempo matters—any deck that wants to develop quickly, hold up interaction, or curve out cleanly will happily spend 2 life to keep the pace. In Commander, it’s a staple fixer for Simic (and any deck touching those colors), and it’s especially nice alongside ramp spells like Nature’s Lore/Three Visits that can find a Forest and put it straight onto the battlefield. This Edge of Eternities printing is part of the set’s borderless “viewport” land treatment—purely cosmetic, but a sharp upgrade if you like your mana base to look as premium as it plays.
