ProxyKing cards are unofficial proxy / playtest cards intended for casual play and playtesting. They are not official Magic: The Gathering® cards and are not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.
This policy exists to keep expectations clear, protect players and stores, and prevent misuse.
What ProxyKing cards are for
You may use ProxyKing cards for:
- Casual “kitchen table” Magic
- Playtesting decks before buying/trading for originals
- Commander nights with friends where everyone agrees proxies are OK
- Cubes and private groups where proxy use is permitted
- Unsanctioned events where the organizer explicitly allows proxies
Rule of thumb: If it’s a friendly game and everyone’s on the same page, proxies are usually fine.
What ProxyKing cards are not for
You may not use ProxyKing cards for:
- Wizards-sanctioned events (including events run under official tournament rules)
- Official tournaments or events where authentic cards are required
- Any situation where proxies are disallowed by the organizer/store
- Deception, fraud, or misrepresentation of any kind
If you’re unsure whether an event is sanctioned or whether proxies are allowed, ask the organizer/store first. If the answer is “no,” the answer is no.
No resale or misrepresentation
ProxyKing cards must never be:
- Sold, traded, or represented as authentic Magic cards
- Listed online in a way that could confuse buyers into thinking they’re real
- Used to deceive players, stores, judges, collectors, or marketplaces
If you want to show someone a ProxyKing card: be direct and transparent—“this is a proxy.”
Make proxy use obvious and respectful
To keep proxying healthy for playgroups and local stores:
- Be transparent before the game starts
- Use sleeves and keep proxy usage consistent within a deck
- Respect store policies (especially for prize-supported nights)
- Consider supporting your LGS in other ways (event entry, snacks, singles, sealed)
Our stance on tournament legality
ProxyKing cards are not tournament-legal for sanctioned play. In sanctioned tournaments, organizers typically require authentic Magic cards, with very limited exceptions under official rules (for example, a judge-issued proxy due to damage during the event).
Trademarks and affiliation
Magic: The Gathering® and Wizards of the Coast® are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast LLC. ProxyKing is not endorsed by or affiliated with Wizards of the Coast.
Enforcement
We reserve the right to refuse service and cancel orders if we believe an order is intended for fraud, misrepresentation, or other misuse.
