Snorlax is a Normal-type Pokémon known for its large size and sleepy demeanor. It is categorized as the Sleeping Pokémon and has been a part of the Pokémon series since its introduction in Generation I.
Physical Appearance:
Snorlax is a massive, blue, bear-like Pokémon with a cream-colored face, belly, and feet. Its eyes are typically closed, further emphasizing its sleepy nature. Snorlax’s arms and legs are short but sturdy, and it has large, pointed ears.
Characteristics and Abilities:
Snorlax is infamous for its tendency to sleep in inconvenient locations, such as in the middle of roads or paths, blocking the way for travelers. In the games, players often need a special item or move to wake Snorlax and proceed. Despite its sleepy appearance, Snorlax is incredibly strong and has a voracious appetite. It can eat up to 900 pounds of food before taking a nap.
Snorlax has a high base stat total, with exceptional HP, Attack, and Special Defense, making it a formidable opponent in battles. It also has access to a wide range of moves, including powerful Normal-type moves like Hyper Beam and Giga Impact, as well as various elemental moves.
Snorlax’s Ability, Thick Fat, reduces the damage it takes from Fire- and Ice-type moves, providing it with additional resistance. Another common Ability for Snorlax is Immunity, which prevents it from being poisoned.
In the Games:
Snorlax is often used as a tank in battles, able to absorb many hits and retaliate with powerful attacks. It can also utilize its large HP pool to use moves like Rest, which fully heals it and puts it to sleep, combined with the move Sleep Talk, allowing it to attack even while asleep.
Shiny Variant and Gigantamax Form:
Snorlax has a shiny variant, where its blue fur is a darker shade. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Snorlax received a Gigantamax form, which significantly increases its size and changes its appearance, making it look like it’s lying on its back with a small tree and grass growing on its stomach.
