Steelix is a dual-type Steel/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation II of the Pokémon series. It evolves from Onix, a Rock/Ground-type Pokémon, when traded while holding a Metal Coat, an in-game item.
Steelix is known for its long, serpentine body made of large, rugged segments and massive jaws. It has a metallic sheen, reflecting its Steel typing. Steelix’s eyes are set deep within its head and glow red. Overall, its appearance is intimidating and robust, fitting for a Pokémon with such a high defense stat.
Characteristics and Abilities:
Steelix is renowned for its incredible defense and strength. It can burrow at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour and is capable of digging through even the hardest of bedrock. Its body is harder than any metal, allowing it to withstand extremely harsh conditions underground, such as high pressure and intense heat.
As a Steel/Ground type, Steelix has a variety of resistances to many common types, including Poison, Rock, Bug, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Normal, Psychic, and Steel, and it is completely immune to Electric-type attacks. However, it has notable weaknesses to Fighting, Ground, Fire, and especially Water types.
Steelix has access to a wide range of moves, including powerful Ground-type moves like Earthquake, as well as Steel-type moves like Iron Tail. It can also learn Rock-type and Dragon-type moves, providing it with diverse offensive capabilities.
In the Games:
In the Pokémon games, Steelix can be quite a formidable opponent due to its high Defense and Attack stats. It is often used by players and in-game trainers who favor a defensive strategy, as it can take numerous hits and retaliate with powerful attacks.
Shiny and Mega Evolution:
Like other Pokémon, Steelix has a shiny variant. A regular Steelix is usually gray in color, while its shiny form has a golden hue. Additionally, Steelix is capable of Mega Evolving in Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, X, and Y when holding a Steelixite, significantly boosting its Defense and Special Defense stats, as well as changing its appearance to become even more formidable and imposing.
