About Jaws, Relentless Predator

Jaws, Relentless Predator is a premium unofficial Jaws Relentless Predator MTG proxy card from Magic: The Gathering‘s Secret Lair Drop Series. This red legendary Shark is most useful in decks built around Blood tokens, artifact sacrifice, and combat damage pressure, making it a strong option for casual Commander, cube, and deck testing.

What Jaws, Relentless Predator Does

Jaws, Relentless Predator is a red legendary creature with trample and haste. When Jaws deals combat damage to a player, you create that many Blood tokens. Since Jaws is a 5/5 with trample, it can often create several Blood tokens from a single successful attack.

Jaws also deals 1 damage to each opponent whenever a noncreature artifact is sacrificed or destroyed. This makes Blood tokens especially important, because Blood tokens are noncreature artifacts that can be sacrificed for their own ability. Treasures, Clues, Foods, Maps, and other artifact tokens can also help trigger Jaws when they are sacrificed.

The main value of Jaws is that it connects combat damage to artifact-based pressure. It attacks quickly, creates artifacts, and then rewards you for sacrificing those artifacts over time. It is especially effective when your deck can give Jaws evasion, increase combat damage, create extra artifact tokens, or sacrifice artifacts repeatedly.

Best Uses for Jaws, Relentless Predator

  • Artifact sacrifice decks: Jaws rewards you whenever noncreature artifacts are sacrificed or destroyed, making it a natural fit with Blood, Treasure, Food, Clue, and Map tokens.
  • Blood token decks: Jaws creates Blood tokens through combat damage and then turns those sacrificed Blood tokens into damage against each opponent.
  • Aggressive Commander decks: Trample and haste let Jaws pressure players quickly while building a resource engine through artifact tokens.
  • Red artifact value decks: Jaws can support decks that already use artifact tokens for card selection, mana, sacrifice triggers, or damage payoffs.

Recommended Interactions

Jaws, Relentless Predator works well with cards that create artifact tokens, reward artifacts entering the battlefield, reward artifacts being sacrificed, or improve combat damage. When building around it, look for Blood, Treasure, Food, Clue, and Map token support, along with ways to give Jaws evasion or additional combat value.

  • Academy Manufactor: Expands artifact token production by creating Clue, Food, and Treasure tokens when you would create one of those token types.
  • Reckless Fireweaver: Rewards artifact tokens entering the battlefield, adding damage when Jaws creates Blood tokens from combat damage.
  • Oni-Cult Anvil: Provides repeated artifact sacrifice value and supports the same artifact token game plan as Jaws.
  • Professional Face-Breaker: Creates Treasure tokens through combat damage and can sacrifice Treasures for card access, giving Jaws more artifact sacrifice triggers.

Cards That Work Well With Jaws, Relentless Predator

Academy Manufactor

Academy Manufactor Magic: The Gathering card image

Academy Manufactor increases artifact token output by adding Clue, Food, and Treasure tokens when certain artifact tokens would be created. This gives Jaws more artifacts to convert into sacrifice triggers and value.

Reckless Fireweaver

Reckless Fireweaver deals damage to each opponent whenever an artifact enters the battlefield under your control. Jaws can create multiple Blood tokens from combat damage, giving Fireweaver repeated triggers.

Oni-Cult Anvil

Oni-Cult Anvil supports repeatable artifact sacrifice value. Sacrificing noncreature artifacts also works with Jaws’s damage trigger, helping turn artifact tokens into steady pressure.

Professional Face-Breaker

Professional Face-Breaker creates Treasure tokens through combat damage and can sacrifice Treasures for card access. Those sacrificed Treasures also support Jaws’s artifact sacrifice payoff.

Decks That Want Jaws, Relentless Predator

Jaws, Relentless Predator fits best in red artifact sacrifice, Blood token, and combat damage decks. In Commander, it can work as a build-around commander for players who want to connect attacking, artifact tokens, and table-wide damage. It can also fit into the 99 of decks that already create and sacrifice a high number of noncreature artifacts.

In cube, Jaws works best when the environment supports artifact tokens and aggressive red threats. It is strongest when Blood, Treasure, Clue, Food, or other artifact tokens are common enough to make the second ability more than an occasional bonus.

Strengths and Considerations

The main strength of Jaws is that it creates its own fuel. A successful attack can generate Blood tokens, and sacrificing those tokens can trigger additional damage to each opponent. This gives the card a clear plan without requiring every support piece to already be on the battlefield.

The main consideration is combat access. Jaws is much stronger when it can reliably deal combat damage to a player. Removal, blockers, fog effects, and damage prevention can slow the plan down. Testing Jaws, Relentless Predator as a proxy can help you decide whether your deck, cube, or casual playgroup has enough artifact token support and combat pressure to make the card worth a slot.

Product Quality and Proxy Use
