Gravecrawler is a one-mana Zombie that turns the graveyard into a repeatable source of creatures. As long as you control a Zombie, you can cast it from your graveyard, paying its normal cost and following normal creature timing. Its inability to block makes it a poor defensive creature, but sacrifice decks care much more about how easily it returns after being used as a resource.
Phyrexian Altar provides the classic engine: sacrifice Gravecrawler for black mana, then use that mana to cast it again while another Zombie remains on the battlefield. Add a payoff such as Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat to turn repeated deaths into life drain. Each piece has a specific job, so keeping a separate Zombie in play is essential when Gravecrawler is in the graveyard.
Warren Soultrader offers another useful pairing because it is itself a Zombie and converts sacrificed creatures into Treasure at the cost of life. A life-gain payoff can help support repeated activations. Outside dedicated loops, Skullclamp and ordinary sacrifice outlets still make Gravecrawler valuable by converting one creature into repeated cards, scries, or death triggers over several turns.
Graveyard hate is the main pressure point, so avoid relying on recursion as your only source of creatures. Also remember that casting it repeatedly can be stopped by effects that limit spells per turn. The card is strongest in lists where its Zombie type, low cost, and recursion all contribute to the same plan.
