Kindred Enchantment — Faerie

At the beginning of your upkeep, you lose 1 life and create a 1/1 black Faerie Rogue creature token with flying.

In Lorwyn's brief evenings, the sun pauses at the horizon long enough for a certain species of violet to bloom with the fragrance of mischief.

Card rulings 5
  1. This cards was originally printed with the "tribal" card type. That card type has been replaced with "kindred". This change does not affect the gameplay function of this card.
  2. Kindred is a card type that allows noncreature cards to have creature types. For example, Echoes of Eternity is an Eldrazi (although not a creature) while on the battlefield and an Eldrazi card (although not a creature card) in zones other than the battlefield.
  3. While it appears only on cards that already have other card types, kindred is a card type and will be counted by effects that refer to the number of card types among cards in a zone.
  4. The effect is mandatory. You'll lose 1 life even if you have only 1 life left.
  5. The life loss isn't a payment. You'll get a token even if you had 0 life (and another effect is stopping you from losing the game).

Updated

Bitterblossom exchanges one life each upkeep for a 1/1 flying Faerie Rogue token. That steady production gives black decks evasive attackers, expendable blockers, or material for sacrifice outlets without requiring another card each turn. Its low casting cost helps establish the engine early enough for several upkeep triggers to accumulate.

Skullclamp can turn a small Faerie into cards, while Blood Artist rewards the token’s eventual death. Anointed Procession or another token doubler increases the output without increasing Bitterblossom’s own life payment. The first token normally arrives on your next upkeep, so it is not immediate defense when cast. The life loss is also mandatory, making recovery or a way to remove the enchantment useful in a long game.

A productive sacrifice deck needs a supply of bodies, a reason to let them die, and a way to turn that exchange into progress. Recurring creatures and token makers provide material, while effects such as Blood Artist can add pressure to deaths that already serve another purpose. Count each return cost and mana payment before treating a sequence as a repeatable combo.

The Faeries have flying, so they can carry Equipment or chip in for damage when sacrificing them is unnecessary. They also remain small, making broad damage or toughness-reduction effects efficient against the accumulated army. Protect the ongoing token source when possible, since rebuilding the same number of creatures takes additional upkeep steps.
