Card rulings 1
  1. If you don't control twenty or more artifacts at the beginning of your upkeep, Hellkite Tyrant's last ability won't trigger. If it does trigger, it will check again when it tries to resolve. If you don't control twenty or more artifacts at that time, the ability will do nothing.

Updated

Hellkite Tyrant turns a successful attack into a major swing against artifact-heavy opponents. When it deals combat damage to a player, you gain control of every artifact that player controls. Flying and trample help it connect, while its separate upkeep ability offers a win condition if you control twenty or more artifacts. The card can therefore act as both a disruptive Dragon and a payoff for your own artifact production.

Treasure decks have a natural route toward the twenty-artifact threshold. Smothering Tithe in a red-white deck or recurring Treasure makers in red can build your count while providing mana to cast the Tyrant. Be careful about spending those Treasures just before your upkeep, since sacrificing them can move you back below the number required to win.

Haste sources such as Lightning Greaves or The Fire Crystal help the Dragon attack before opponents untap. Target selection matters as much as raw power: stealing several mana rocks from one player can be more useful than dealing slightly more damage elsewhere. The control change from its combat trigger has no stated end point, so you do not automatically return those artifacts when the Dragon leaves.

The alternate win happens on your upkeep, not immediately when you reach twenty artifacts. You must still meet the condition when the trigger resolves. Plan to protect the Dragon and preserve your artifact count through that window, while treating a successful artifact-stealing attack as meaningful value even when the alternate win is not imminent.
