Throne of Eldraine gives a monocolored deck two resources it wants in longer games: a large burst of colored mana and a way to draw extra cards. You choose a color as it enters, then its mana ability produces four mana restricted to casting monocolored spells of that color. Its other ability draws two cards for three mana of the chosen color and a tap.
Mono-black decks can use the mana toward expensive creatures such as Archon of Cruelty, while mono-green decks can accelerate into large threats such as Apex Devastator. The restriction is important: that mana cannot pay for ordinary activated abilities, colorless artifacts, or multicolored spells. A deck full of expensive cards is not automatically a good home unless those cards match the chosen color.
The draw mode helps when the mana burst is no longer the most useful option. Leaving three appropriate mana available lets you refill during an opponent's end step, then untap with new cards for your next turn. Because both abilities tap the Throne, using it for mana normally means waiting before you can use it for cards.
Untap effects such as Voltaic Key can increase its flexibility, but the artifact should justify its slot without additional support. Five mana is a meaningful setup cost. It performs best when your deck regularly casts substantial monocolored spells and appreciates a repeatable draw ability attached to the same permanent that helps pay for them.
