Takenuma, Abandoned Mire supplies untapped black mana when you need a land and graveyard recovery when you need a card instead. Channeling it from hand mills three cards, then returns a creature or planeswalker card from your graveyard to your hand. The generic part of the channel cost decreases for each legendary creature you control.
The milling happens before choosing the card to recover, so a newly milled creature can become the useful option. A commander on the battlefield can make channeling cheaper without requiring Takenuma to occupy a spell slot. Channel is an activated ability rather than a spell, but playing Takenuma as a land means you cannot channel it directly from the battlefield.
Graveyard strategies benefit from choosing which resources should remain available for later use. A creature with a strong entry ability can be valuable even when it is too small to dominate combat, while an engine permanent may matter more than the largest threat. Match recovery to a card you can actually cast or use soon, rather than simply selecting the most expensive option.
The recovered card goes to hand rather than directly into play. Budget for casting it after paying the channel cost, especially when the graveyard target is expensive. The mill can also expose new resources to opposing graveyard interaction, so treat channel as a recovery opportunity rather than a guaranteed uninterrupted sequence.
