Overgrown Tomb gives black-green decks a land that supports their two colors while remaining easy to find with typed-land searches. Its Swamp and Forest types qualify for several fetch lands and for spells such as Three Visits. You may pay two life for untapped access or let it enter tapped when the next turn matters more than the current one.
Verdant Catacombs can find Tomb through either type. Polluted Delta reaches it as a Swamp, while Wooded Foothills reaches it as a Forest. This makes Tomb useful in Abzan, Sultai, and Jund decks where a fetch land may need to supply a color outside its most familiar two-color association.
Graveyard decks often alternate between green development and black recursion. Tomb can help cast Life from the Loam, leave Assassin’s Trophy available, or contribute to a reanimation sequence on another turn. Because it is already a Swamp, it also counts for Cabal Coffers without needing Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth to add that type.
The life payment is optional each time the land enters. If you can search for Tomb tapped before your next untap, there may be no reason to spend the extra life. Effects that require the searched-for land to enter tapped still apply even if you pay. Tomb remains nonbasic, so it cannot replace basic lands in a deck relying on searches restricted to basics. Balance its versatile colors with the number of reliable untapped sources your early plays require.
