Legolas's Quick Reflexes can protect a creature and turn its next tap into removal. The spell untaps a target creature, gives it reach and hexproof, and grants an ability that deals its power in damage to a creature whenever it becomes tapped that turn. One green mana can therefore cover defense, combat positioning, and an additional damage effect in the same sequence.
Attacking is a straightforward way to tap the protected creature and trigger the damage ability. You can remove a potential blocker before blocks are declared if the trigger resolves at that stage. A creature with vigilance does not tap merely by attacking, so it needs another tap action to produce the trigger. Mana creatures and creatures with useful tap abilities offer other routes, especially when an untap effect lets them tap repeatedly.
Split second makes the spell harder to answer while it is on the stack: players cannot cast spells or activate nonmana abilities during that window. It does not make the spell uncounterable in every possible way, and the restriction ends once the spell resolves. Opponents can respond normally to later damage triggers.
The granted damage ability is optional about choosing a target, and it deals noncombat damage rather than fighting. Your creature does not automatically take damage back from the target. Use the spell on a creature whose power and tap options justify the extra mode, while recognizing that hexproof alone can be enough when preserving a key creature is the urgent task.
