Inkmoth Nexus gives a land slot an evasive poison threat. One mana turns it into a 1/1 flying artifact creature with infect until end of turn, while it remains a land. Damage it deals to players becomes poison counters, and damage to creatures becomes -1/-1 counters instead of ordinary marked damage.
Equipment and temporary power boosts can make that small flying body much more threatening. A deck using proliferate can also build on poison counters after an initial hit, so the Nexus may only need to connect once to establish a new pressure point. Because the land can remain unanimated, it can avoid many creature sweepers and wait for a safer attack.
Animating comes with exposure. Creature removal, artifact removal, and combat can now threaten a land you may still need for mana. A Nexus played that turn also has summoning sickness once it becomes a creature, so it cannot immediately attack or use a tap-symbol ability without haste. Plan the attack a turn ahead when possible.
Its normal mana ability produces colorless, which is a cost to consider in decks with demanding colored requirements. The card fits best when infect, Equipment, counters, or land-based resilience already support the strategy. Simply adding it to a deck does not create a reliable poison finish. Give it a way to deal meaningful damage or a plan to use the first poison counters, and the land becomes much more than an occasional one-point flyer.
