Exploration lets you play one additional land during each of your turns. For a single green mana, it can turn a land-heavy hand into faster development and make utility lands easier to deploy without delaying your colors. It is particularly useful in lands and landfall decks that can keep finding lands after the opening turns.
Life from the Loam returns lands from the graveyard to your hand, providing material for the extra land play. Crucible of Worlds offers another route by letting you play lands from the graveyard directly. With a fetch land such as Verdant Catacombs, you can use an available land play to replay it, sacrifice it for a land, and repeat if you still have another land play available.
Landfall payoffs make those extra entries more productive. Avenger of Zendikar can grow its Plants, while Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait draws cards as lands enter and grants another additional land play of its own. Exploration and Aesi together normally allow three land plays on your turn, helping convert a full hand into both mana development and additional triggers.
Exploration does not draw lands, search for them, or allow you to play them during an opponent’s turn. If your hand runs dry, the enchantment may stop contributing until you find more lands or a recursion engine. It also differs from ramp that puts lands directly onto the battlefield, since those effects do not use your land plays. Choose Exploration when the deck can maintain a steady land supply and benefit from putting that supply to work sooner.
