Embercleave is a combat spell disguised as Equipment. Flash lets you cast it after attackers are declared, and each attacking creature reduces its generic cost by one. It attaches to a creature you control when it enters, immediately granting +1/+1, double strike, and trample. A wide attack can make the card inexpensive while concentrating its damage boost on the attacker that matters most.
The interaction between double strike and trample creates the threat. A blocker may absorb the first damage step and leave the attacker free to deal more damage in the next, while trample can push damage beyond a blocker in either step under the usual assignment rules. A creature with an existing power boost makes the increase more pronounced.
Casting after blockers are declared lets you choose the most productive legal attachment target with more information. Opponents can still respond to the spell or its attachment trigger, so losing the intended carrier is a real risk. The discount cannot remove the required red mana symbols, and it counts attacking creatures rather than the total creatures you control.
Once the surprise turn is over, Embercleave remains as Equipment with an ordinary three-mana equip ability. That gives an aggressive deck a continuing threat after the first carrier is removed. Build the attack around realistic damage and available protection rather than assuming the initial attachment guarantees a kill; its best turns combine a broad attack, a strong carrier, and a response window the opponent cannot comfortably cover.
