About Clever Impersonator
Clever Impersonator is a premium Clever Impersonator MTG proxy from Magic: The Gathering’s Khans of Tarkir set. This blue Shapeshifter can enter as a copy of any nonland permanent on the battlefield, giving it considerably more flexibility than a typical creature-only Clone effect.

What Clever Impersonator Does
For four mana, Clever Impersonator can copy any nonland permanent already on the battlefield. That includes creatures, artifacts, enchantments, and planeswalkers, allowing the card to become whatever permanent is most useful at that particular moment.
Sometimes that means copying your own value engine. Other times it means borrowing the best thing an opponent brought to the table. In Commander, where there are usually plenty of expensive and interesting permanents available, finding a worthwhile target is rarely the difficult part.
Best Uses
- Commander: Copy the strongest useful nonland permanent currently available.
- Clone strategies: Adds a highly flexible copy effect that is not restricted to creatures.
- Control and value decks: Adapt to the board instead of committing a deck slot to one narrow type of threat.
Recommended Interactions
- High-value enchantments: Copy powerful draw engines, token generators, or other persistent effects.
- Planeswalkers: Clever Impersonator’s ability to copy planeswalkers gives it options unavailable to many traditional Clone cards.
- Enter-the-battlefield creatures: Copy a creature with a useful ETB ability while also gaining its body and other abilities.
Strengths and Considerations
Clever Impersonator’s main strength is flexibility. One card can function as another creature, artifact, enchantment, or planeswalker depending on what the game calls for.
Its main limitation is that it depends on something worthwhile already being on the battlefield. It also cannot copy lands. At four mana, you generally want the permanent you copy to provide enough value to justify the investment.
