Cabal Coffers helps black Commander decks turn a developed mana base into much larger spells and activations. Its ability costs two mana and taps the land, then adds black mana for each Swamp you control. The more Swamps you assemble, the more useful that exchange becomes.
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is the defining partner because it makes every land a Swamp, including Coffers and your utility lands. With five Swamps on the battlefield, Coffers produces five black mana after you pay the two-mana activation cost. Urborg also gives Coffers a normal tap-for-black ability, which is valuable when you do not yet have enough lands to justify its larger activation.
Deserted Temple can untap Coffers for another activation, though you must account for Temple’s one-mana payment and the second Coffers activation cost. Crypt Ghast increases the output further by adding black mana when you tap a Swamp for mana. These interactions reward a deck that can consistently assemble enough lands and has productive ways to spend large amounts of mana.
Walking Ballista offers a scalable outlet for a substantial mana reserve, while expensive creatures and repeated abilities can use the same resources without requiring a dedicated combo. Coffers is weaker in an opening hand with too few Swamps: on its own, it has no ordinary tap-for-mana ability. Balance the powerful late-game payoff against reliable early land drops. It belongs in mana bases built to support its Swamp count, not every deck that happens to include black.
