Badlands supplies black-red mana from a land with the Swamp Mountain types. It has no built-in tapped-entry condition or life payment, making it useful when early colored spells need to be cast without delay. Its combination of immediate access and searchable types supports both two-color decks and wider mana bases built around fetch lands.
Bloodstained Mire can find Badlands, giving the fetch a target that does not require a shock-land payment to arrive untapped. Other searches can find it whenever one of its land types matches their instructions. Compared with Blood Crypt, it fills a similar color-fixing role while avoiding that land’s choice between two life and a tapped entry.
For sacrifice and spell-recursion strategies, the practical benefit is choosing between spells such as Dark Ritual and Underworld Breach as the turn develops. Black tutors and sacrifice payoffs work alongside red resources and recursion. A deck preparing a large Underworld Breach turn benefits from establishing its colors before spending mana on the spells that will fuel that sequence. A flexible source supports those decisions without requiring a separate fixing artifact to stay on the battlefield.
The land still produces only one mana per activation, even though it has two basic land types. It is also nonbasic, so Fabled Passage and other basic-only searches cannot find it. Keep actual basics where the deck’s ramp or resilience calls for them, and count colored sources carefully when several spells require repeated symbols of the same color.
