Flooded Strand supports white-blue mana bases by searching for a Plains or Island when you need one. Paying one life and sacrificing it gives you access to basics or typed nonbasics, helping hands with mixed colored costs develop more smoothly.

Hallowed Fountain and Tundra are direct white-blue targets. In a Bant deck, Temple Garden can supply green and white because it has the Plains type. In Esper, Raffine’s Tower offers all three colors with a tapped-entry tradeoff. These examples show why a fetch land’s search types matter more than treating it as a land restricted to one familiar color pair.

Control decks can use Strand to keep their early blue interaction and white removal available, choosing the target that matches the spells in hand. Brainstorm also appreciates the shuffle: put back cards you do not want to draw next, then fetch to change the library’s order. A slower land engine can reuse Strand with Crucible of Worlds, subject to the usual land-play limit.

The life payment is small individually but can accumulate, particularly when the target is a shock land you want untapped. Fetching Hallowed Fountain that way costs three life altogether. A basic may be better when it supplies the needed color, while a tapped three-color land can be worth the delay on a quieter turn. Build in enough searchable targets and remember that fetching improves selection and color access without increasing your land count by itself.
