Jet Medallion reduces the generic portion of each black spell you cast by one mana. It is useful in mono-black and heavily black decks that expect to cast several qualifying spells across a game, especially when a single turn involves tutoring, recursion, and a payoff. The artifact supplies a continuing discount rather than mana you can spend elsewhere.
Diabolic Intent normally costs one generic and one black mana, so Medallion can reduce that payment to a single black. Phyrexian Arena becomes easier to deploy as well, while a larger spell such as Bolas’s Citadel retains its colored requirements but loses one generic mana from the total. Multiple black casts can produce several savings during the same turn.
That distinction can favor Medallion over a two-mana rock in a spell-heavy deck. A rock ordinarily taps once for mana, while the discount applies to each eligible cast without tapping. Black spells cast from the graveyard can benefit when their total costs include generic mana, giving recursion strategies another way to stretch a turn’s available resources.
The reduction cannot pay black symbols, so Dark Ritual and Necropotence receive no discount from their printed costs. It also does not reduce activated abilities or help cast a colorless artifact merely because that artifact belongs in a black deck. Keep enough real mana sources for those costs. Jet Medallion works best when a large portion of the deck consists of black spells with generic costs and you can turn repeated small savings into a productive sequence.
