Card rulings 6
  1. There are many important moments in the story, but the most crucial—called “story spotlights”—are shown on cards. These cards have the Planeswalker symbol in their text box; this symbol has no effect on gameplay. You can read more about these events in the official Magic fiction at http://www.mtgstory.com.
  2. All of the tokens enter the battlefield simultaneously. They’ll be created with the same name, color, type and subtype, abilities, power, toughness, and so on.
  3. If the token you create has any “as [this permanent] enters the battlefield” or “[this permanent] enters the battlefield with” abilities, first determine how many tokens are being created, then apply those abilities individually for each one. For example, if a token with “You may have [this permanent] enter the battlefield as a copy of any creature on the battlefield” would be created (such as an embalmed Vizier of Many Faces), the resulting two tokens can each copy a different creature.
  4. If an effect creates more than one kind of token, it’ll create twice as many of each kind. For example, if you cast Bestial Menace while controlling Anointed Procession, you’ll create two Snake tokens, two Wolf tokens, and two Elephant tokens.
  5. If you control two Anointed Processions, then the number of tokens created is four times the original number. If you control three, then the number of tokens created is eight times the original number, and so on.
  6. If the effect creating the tokens instructs you to do something with those tokens at a later time, like exiling them at the end of combat, you’ll do that for all the tokens.

Updated

Anointed Procession doubles tokens that effects would create under your control. That includes creature tokens as well as Treasures, Clues, Food, and other token types. White token decks can use it to increase combat pressure, but its broader scope also supports artifact and resource engines that turn tokens into mana or cards.

Avenger of Zendikar creates twice as many Plants with Procession in play, giving later landfall triggers a larger army to grow. Smothering Tithe can create two Treasures for each successful token-producing trigger, improving the mana available for a major follow-up turn. Academy Manufactor adds another layer by replacing the creation of a Clue, Food, or Treasure with a set of all three, which Procession can then double.

Multiple token doublers multiply the result. With both Anointed Procession and Parallel Lives applying to a token-creation event, an effect that would make one token normally makes four. This can produce a large board quickly, but the useful question is what the tokens will do next. Sacrifice outlets, artifact payoffs, and combat finishers help turn increased quantity into a concrete advantage.

Procession does not create tokens by itself or double counters placed on creatures already in play. At four mana, it can also be slower than simply casting another token producer when you are behind on the board. It works best when the deck has enough repeatable or high-volume token production to benefit soon after it resolves, plus a way to spend those resources before opponents clear them away.
