Card rulings 7
  1. When determining what colors of mana your opponents' lands could produce, take into account any applicable replacement effects that would apply to those lands' mana abilities (such as Contamination's effect, for example). If there is more than one, consider them in any possible order.
  2. Fellwar Stone checks the effects of all mana-producing abilities of lands your opponents control, but it doesn't check their costs. For example, Vivid Crag has the ability "Tap, Remove a charge counter from Vivid Crag: Add one mana of any color." If an opponent controls Vivid Crag and you control Fellwar Stone, you can tap Fellwar Stone for any color of mana. It doesn't matter whether Vivid Crag has a charge counter on it, and it doesn't matter whether it's untapped.
  3. The colors of mana are white, blue, black, red, and green. Fellwar Stone can't be tapped for colorless mana, even if a land an opponent controls could produce colorless mana.
  4. Fellwar Stone doesn't care about any restrictions or riders your opponents' lands (such as Ancient Ziggurat or Hall of the Bandit Lord) put on the mana they produce. It just cares about colors of mana.
  5. It only produces one mana even if the land can produce more than one.
  6. The ability can be activated if the opponent has no lands that produce mana, but the effect will not be able to generate any mana.
  7. This works even if the opponent's lands are tapped. It only checks what kinds of mana can be produced, not if the abilities that produce them are usable right now.

Updated

Fellwar Stone offers two-mana acceleration that often supplies several useful colors in multiplayer Commander. It taps for a color that a land an opponent controls could produce, letting a deck turn opponents’ developed mana bases into additional options for its own spells. Casting it early can help reach a four-mana play on the following turn.

Unlike a mana creature, an ordinary Fellwar Stone can use its tap ability immediately after it enters. An opposing Steam Vents gives access to blue or red, while a land with broader color options can make Stone more flexible. The opposing land can be tapped, and Stone does not inherit restrictions attached to that land’s mana ability.

Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy adds another mana of the same type when you tap Stone for mana. Artifact strategies also appreciate its contribution to metalcraft for Mox Opal and to the size of Constructs created by Urza’s Saga. These benefits let a basic ramp slot support the deck’s wider artifact plan without demanding a separate setup card.

Its colors are less predictable than Arcane Signet’s in a deck with a multicolor commander. If opponents have not established the color you need, Stone cannot create it simply because that color appears in your deck. It also cannot produce colorless mana through this ability. Keep enough dependable colored lands for early interaction and demanding costs, then use Fellwar Stone as efficient acceleration that becomes more versatile as the table’s lands develop.
