Deserted Beach provides white-blue mana with an entry condition suited to games that develop beyond the opening turns. It enters untapped once you control at least two other lands, regardless of their names or basic land types. As a third land drop it can therefore be immediately useful, while playing it among your first two lands normally means accepting a tapped source.
Pair it with early sources such as Hallowed Fountain and basics so the first turns remain functional. Flooded Strand can establish a needed color before Deserted Beach arrives, and the later dual source can then support a more demanding sequence. This arrangement suits decks that value consistent midgame mana without requiring every land to enter untapped on turn one.
For control and blink strategies, the practical benefit is choosing between spells such as Swords to Plowshares and Counterspell as the turn develops. White removal and blue countermagic ask for different colors at different moments. A blink deck also wants to cast its white creatures without losing access to blue protection for the engine. A flexible source supports those decisions without requiring a separate fixing artifact to stay on the battlefield.
This land does not have the basic land types needed for ordinary fetch searches. Its own presence also does not count toward the two other lands required by the entry condition. Evaluate an opening hand around the order you can play its lands, especially when an early removal spell or mana creature needs an untapped source before the third turn.
