Arid Mesa gives red-white decks flexible mana through a Mountain or Plains search. After paying one life and sacrificing it, you can find a basic or an appropriate typed nonbasic, helping a hand support early white creatures, red interaction, and later multicolor spells. Its value comes from the range of lands your deck makes available.
Sacred Foundry and Plateau provide the direct red-white pairing. Raugrin Triome adds blue for Jeskai, while Stomping Ground can add green through its Mountain type. A deck using white Equipment support and red combat payoffs can choose its target around the spells already in hand instead of accepting a fixed color from every land draw.
Landfall payoffs also work with Mesa. Playing it and then finding another land creates two separate entry events for Lotus Cobra or Tireless Provisioner. Crucible of Worlds can let you play Mesa again from the graveyard, and Exploration can provide another land play when the deck has access to green. Those cards supply the engine that makes repeated fetching valuable.
The life payment and entry conditions still matter. Fetching Sacred Foundry untapped normally costs three life in total, while a basic avoids the extra two-life payment. A Triome enters tapped and is usually easier to accommodate before a turn when you need all your mana. Mesa replaces itself rather than adding an extra land, so count it as fixing and support for other engines when assessing how much ramp the deck needs.
