Fabled Passage lets a multicolor deck choose a basic land when it knows which color matters most. Sacrificing it searches for that basic and puts it onto the battlefield tapped, then untaps the land if you control at least four lands. The ability gives early fixing and becomes more convenient once your mana base is established.
The four-land check happens after the searched-for land enters. If that land brings your total to four, it can untap and provide mana during the same turn. Before that threshold, plan around receiving a tapped source. Passage does not demand a life payment, making it useful when repeated fetch and shock-land payments would put unnecessary pressure on your life total.
Landfall decks receive an entry from Passage itself and another from the basic it finds. Lotus Cobra can turn both into mana, while Tireless Provisioner can create Food or Treasure from each event. Crucible of Worlds lets you play Passage again from the graveyard on a later land play, giving those engines another opportunity to produce value.
The search is restricted to basic land cards. It cannot find Watery Grave or a Triome simply because those lands have basic land types. It also replaces itself with another land rather than increasing your land count on its own. Keep enough basics available for the number of searches your deck expects to make, and weigh the early tapped land against the flexibility and repeated landfall opportunities it supplies later.
