Planar Nexus brings every nonbasic land type to one land. That includes types such as Gate, Locus, Desert, and the types used by the Urza lands. Decks that count or check those types can use the Nexus as a flexible supporting piece without making it a spell slot.
Urza's Tower and the other Urza lands are a notable interaction. The Nexus supplies the relevant land types, helping satisfy their checks for the other pieces. It does not gain the printed mana abilities of those lands, so the Nexus itself still uses its own abilities rather than automatically producing several mana. Locus and Gate strategies can similarly count its type without receiving abilities from another card.
Its ordinary ability produces one colorless mana. Paying one mana and tapping it produces one mana of any color, making that mode a filter rather than an extra source of net mana. It does not have the basic land types such as Forest or Island merely because it has every nonbasic land type, and it is not a basic land.
For example, an Urza's Tower alongside Planar Nexus can see the Urza's Mine and Urza's Power-Plant land types it needs for its larger mana ability. The Nexus still taps for only its own printed mana output. It helps the Tower's condition without copying the Tower's text.
The right home is a deck where the types do real work. In a generic multicolor deck, the filtering mode can be less efficient than a straightforward colored source. In a land-type strategy, however, one slot can support several checks and synergies. Read each payoff's wording to confirm whether it cares about a land's type, name, or an ability, because those are different characteristics.
